Is Your Phone Trying to Kill You?
Songs that matter to you (or not) — Richie Kavanagh — The Mobile Phone
The song, enjoy 😉,
Diseases Caused by Excessive Mobile Phone Use
Are you reading this on your phone? If so, put it down for a second and listen up. According to a recent article, excessive mobile phone use can lead to different diseases. Yes, you read that right — your beloved phone might try to kill you. Here are four diseases to watch out for:
Nomophobia — the fear of being without your phone
Text neck — neck pain caused by constantly looking down at your phone
Smartphone pinky — a permanent bend in your pinky from holding your phone too much
Selfie elbow — elbow pain caused by taking too many selfies
Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure I have all four diseases.
In fact, I’m pretty sure I’m dying right now. But hey, at least I’ll die surrounded by my friends — Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
Let’s start with nomophobia. I don’t know about you, but the thought of being without my phone gives me actual anxiety. What if someone needs to reach me? What if I miss an important email? What if I forget to check my Instagram and someone posts a picture of a cute puppy that I don’t get to see? The horror. And don’t even get me started on the panic that sets in when my battery gets low. It’s like a ticking time bomb.
Then there’s “text neck”. I’m pretty sure I’ve had this since the day I got my first phone. It’s like my neck is permanently craned downwards, always looking at my phone. I’m pretty sure I’ve developed a sixth sense where I can feel my phone buzzing in my pocket even when it’s not there. It’s a gift and a curse.
And let’s not forget about the smartphone pinky. Who knew that holding a tiny rectangle could cause a permanent bend in your finger? I’m pretty sure that’s not covered in the warranty. But hey, at least I have a signature pinky pose for all my selfies.
Speaking of selfies, let’s talk about selfie elbow. I didn’t even know this was a thing, but apparently, taking too many selfies can cause elbow pain. I’m pretty sure my elbow hurts just thinking about it. But hey, anything for the perfect angle, right?
So, what have we learned today? Our phones might try to kill us, but at least we’ll die with a bunch of hilarious memes and cute puppy pictures. And who knows, maybe one day there will be a vaccine for nomophobia. Until then, stay safe out there, fellow phone addicts.
In all seriousness, though.
Excessive mobile phone use can have negative effects on our health. It’s important to take breaks and give our eyes, necks, and fingers a rest. And let’s not forget to actually interact with the world instead of just staring at a screen all day.
